Ibrahima Konaté, the 26-year-old center back for the French national team and Liverpool (under contract until 2026), is in talks for a contract extension. Nothing is easy at the moment, and a departure is also being discussed. Notably, Paris Saint-Germain is interested in signing him during the transfer window. Foot Mercato announced on Thursday morning that Liverpool is not giving in.
“The 26-year-old French international has so far not responded to the Reds’ attempts to extend his contract. And Real Madrid is a destination that inspires him. However, according to our information, Liverpool has not given up and has sent a new offer for an extension. An increased offer, of course.”
This is a credible announcement, as we suspect that Liverpool intends to keep the French international. He is a key player in the defense. And the departure of such a player at the end of his contract is always very painful. Especially since the Reds have just lost Trent Alexander-Arnold (26-year-old right back) in the same way. Real Madrid could well try to do the same with Konaté.
Other clubs may be interested in this situation, even for a transfer this summer, including PSG. But there has been no confirmation and we remain cautious. The same goes for the player’s alleged preference for Real Madrid. Even if it is credible. An extension remains possible. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
