Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool faced off this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for PSG (4-0 on aggregate). After the game, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté (26 years old) answered questions from CBS Sports Golazo.
Konaté: “That’s football.”
Is 4-0 a fair scoreline?
Honestly, you could say yes and no. Over there, they had a lot of chances and only scored two goals. At Anfield, we could have done something special. We had a lot of chances, but we lost. So it’s a bit harsh. It’s a bit like last season, with us having a lot of chances and them having very few. But that’s football. We’re disappointed.
VAR on the penalty?
Last season, we had a penalty just like that. It was a clear penalty in my opinion, but the referee didn’t award it, that’s how it is. If we had been awarded it and scored, it would have been different.
Konaté: “Tonight’s match is significant”
What does your performance against PSG say about you?
We should be happy. We have a lot of players coming back from injuries. Even though Ekitike is injured, I’m very sad for him. We mustn’t forget what happened this season, but tonight’s match is significant. PSG is stronger than last season, and putting in a performance like this should motivate us to build. We need to understand how good we can be.
Would it be crazy if Liverpool weren’t in the Champions League next season?
Yes, it’s the bare minimum for Liverpool. We have to give everything in the remaining matches to be there.
