Having arrived from Mallorca during the summer transfer window in July 2023, 24-year-old South Korean midfielder/winger Lee Kang-In is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. He has shown promise, but is struggling to fully establish himself, and there is talk of a move this transfer window. This Saturday, AS reported a possible transfer to Atlético Madrid. L’Équipe confirms that there is indeed interest and that PSG has responded clearly.
“The left-footed player could even see PSG open discussions to try and extend his contract in the coming weeks.”
“L’Équipe can confirm that the Spanish club’s management is trying to convince their Parisian counterparts to release the South Korean international. But Atlético will once again encounter Luis Enrique’s determination to keep his attacking midfielder.”
Last summer, when the former Mallorca player, sidelined since mid-December with a thigh injury, expressed a desire to leave, the Parisian management closed the door, explaining that Lee was considered an important part of the squad. The stance hasn’t changed, and the PSG coach doesn’t want to see him leave the French capital. With two years remaining on his contract, the 1.73m left-footer could even see PSG open discussions to try and extend his contract in the coming weeks.
That Lee is attracting interest from clubs is easily believable. However, it’s not even certain, and certainly not enough to guarantee a transfer. There are players who are constantly attracting interest from numerous clubs. Being able to make an offer that pleases all parties is quite another matter.
In this case, it’s not entirely out of the question that Lee is considering a departure; PSG could also consider him for a certain fee. But Korea has made good progress in adapting to the team, gaining impact before his injury. He can certainly continue, or even extend his contract. We’ll have to wait to see things more clearly.
