Having arrived from Mallorca during the summer transfer window in July 2023, Lee Kang-In, a 25-year-old South Korean midfielder/winger, is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. He took some time to adapt and establish himself, but has since grown in stature. He has been the subject of transfer rumors in recent weeks, notably with interest from Atlético Madrid and talk of a contract extension. Today, Mundo Deportivo reports that he is seen as the ideal replacement for Antoine Griezmann (34), who was recently linked with a move to Orlando.
“Mateu Alemany, director of men’s professional football at Atlético de Madrid, is a big admirer of Kang-in Lee, the South Korean player for PSG. He had already tried to sign him during the last winter transfer window, even though it’s extremely difficult to acquire players from the Parisian club, except in exceptional circumstances.
The transfer didn’t go through, but he intends to continue his efforts because the South Korean would be the ideal replacement for Griezmann.”
We remain cautious, as always with rumors. There’s nothing concrete. Several media outlets have mentioned Atlético Madrid’s interest in Lee in recent months, without any confirmation. The same goes for PSG’s contract extension offer. The player hasn’t said anything, nor has the club. It’s difficult, therefore, to get a clear picture.
Here, we can agree with the Spanish newspaper that Lee certainly has the qualities to interest Atlético Madrid, including his versatility, technical ability, and dedication. But there’s no guarantee that a concrete proposal will materialize, nor that it would lead to an agreement. The season is far from over, and the uncertainty is likely to continue.
