Julian Alvarez, the 26-year-old Argentinian striker for Atlético Madrid (contract until 2030), was linked with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 when he left Manchester City. But he is reportedly on his way out again, with PSG and FC Barcelona keeping a close eye on him, and possibly Arsenal as well. This idea was confirmed by Cadena SER on Wednesday, which also mentioned the Madrid club’s asking price.
“The Argentinian player has agreed to leave. The striker believes he will develop more at a club similar to FC Barcelona, his preferred destination, or Paris Saint-Germain.”
Given the behind-the-scenes maneuvering and the behavior of agents, intermediaries, and representatives of other clubs, Atlético Madrid’s management already suspected the Argentinian wanted to leave. Atlético de Madrid is therefore very clear: Julián was a marquee signing, a very expensive transfer, and if he leaves, it will be for a fee of around €150 million, a figure that Gil Marín himself communicated to FC Barcelona, with whom he has already made contact.
A credible announcement, which aligns with the rumors, but which is still not enough to provide certainty. Of course, the accumulation of announcements suggests that the deal is indeed in place, even that it’s progressing. Except that there isn’t a single concrete element. We’ve already seen the media get carried away for nothing. So, we have to wait.
Confirmation will eventually come, unless it’s a clear denial. The uncertainty continues in the meantime, with a player who could be a perfect fit for PSG in terms of playing style. But who could also turn to Barcelona, or even another big club. Like Arsenal. Let’s wait to find out more. But negotiations are bound to be difficult for such a player. The price is far from certain, but it is certain to be very high.
