Bradley Barcola, a 23-year-old forward signed by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 on a contract running until June 2028, has established himself at both PSG and the French national team. However, in Paris, he remains something of a substitute for big matches. This situation is believed to have contributed to his flat refusal to discuss a contract extension. A departure as early as this summer is now being considered. According to The Athletic, the French international could be sidelined by PSG if an agreement is not reached before the transfer window closes.

A price tag of €170 million.

Paris Saint-Germain have put a valuation of at least €170million on forward Bradley Barcola. The 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2028, and he does not wish to extend it. Among the factors under consideration in this valuation are the sums paid by Chelsea for Morgan Rogers (£117m) and Manchester City for Elliot Anderson (£116m). Also taken into account are Barcola’s youth, his status as a key player in the club’s two Champions League triumphs over the past two seasons and the fact he is a regular for France.

The same sources expect competition from Premier League clubs for Barcola, with Liverpool having made him a top target. Arsenal have also shown interest but are prioritising a possible move for Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid.

“Luis Enrique only wants committed players”

PSG sources also point out that their head coach Luis Enrique only wants committed players; therefore, if the club do not secure the desired fee, Barcola may not feature for them next season.

One must remain cautious, however—at least regarding the prospect of Barcola being sidelined by PSG. The rest is being discussed by numerous media outlets and makes sense. Paris is expected to demand a significant fee for Barcola—a young player who impressed at the World Cup following strong performances this season. Although he struggled somewhat towards the end due to an ankle injury—which contributed to him starting the Champions League final on the bench—he did play in that match and had been a starter earlier in the competition.

There is no question of handing out a bargain, even though negotiations are certainly possible. As always, the aim is to start with a high asking price to secure the best possible fee. Beyond that, we are waiting for something concrete; nothing is certain yet. Barcola’s own stance has not been officially stated either. A lot could still happen. However, freezing a player out is rare and would seem rather extreme. If the player is truly no longer focused on PSG, a departure is the ideal outcome anyway. Then, of course, there is the media game that plays a part in negotiations.
