Paris Saint-Germain is set to lose Emmanuel Mbemba, an 18-year-old center-back or left-back developed at the club. According to L’Équipe, the young player—who won the Coupe Gambardella against Montpellier (3–2) on May 22—will ultimately join Paris FC rather than AS Monaco.
Mbemba leaves PSG but stays in the capital
“Considered one of the most solid prospects from the PSG academy—with whom he notably won the Coupe Gambardella on May 22 against Montpellier (3–2)—Emmanuel Mbemba will not sign his first professional contract with the Rouge et Bleu. Although at one point expected to join Monaco, the 18-year-old center-back or left-back is ultimately heading to Paris FC.”
Paris Saint-Germain thus sees another key member of its 2008-born cohort depart. The destination is noteworthy, as Mbemba is joining neither a major foreign club nor AS Monaco—long considered the frontrunner—but rather the other Parisian club.
Paris FC can offer him a faster route to professional football while allowing him to continue his development in a familiar environment. For PSG, this departure primarily highlights the difficulties the club faces in retaining some of its most promising young talents when the time comes for them to make the final step up to the first team.
