Zion Suzuki, the 23-year-old Japan and Parma goalkeeper (under contract until 2029), has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain as a potential target for the 2026 transfer window. Onze Mondial reports this Friday that the interest is genuine, although nothing concrete has yet materialized regarding a move that could prove quite costly.

“The two-time European champions have opened talks with Parma”

For several days now, the two-time European champions have been in discussions with Parma regarding Japanese international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. So far, very few details have emerged about the nature of the talks. However, according to our information, the Italian club is reportedly asking for more than €30 million to part ways with the man who guarded the net for Japan at the last World Cup. An Italian source even suggests a figure between €35 million and €40 million.

“Could the arrival of a new signing prompt the capital club to part ways with Lucas Chevalier?”

If Paris were to step up their pursuit—with competition from Juventus seemingly having faded for the time being—the goalkeeping pecking order could once again be shaken up. Could the arrival of a new signing prompt the capital club to part ways with Lucas Chevalier, either on loan or via a permanent transfer? This hypothesis cannot be entirely ruled out.

This confirms PSG’s interest, suggesting it is indeed a real possibility. However, it is not an official announcement either. Without concrete details, one cannot be certain. PSG and the transfer market are full of surprises, so we cannot rule out a move that—while not a top priority—would raise questions regarding a goalkeeping position that has already been turbulent in recent years.

Suzuki fits the profile of a player who could appeal to Paris; he is a rising talent who appears to possess a strong enough personality to establish himself at a club like PSG. He remains composed and plays with authority, whether coming off his line or playing the ball with his feet. He could be a candidate to eventually establish himself as the undisputed number one.

The issue is that Lucas Chevalier (24) was signed last summer for €40 million—paid to Lille—with that very goal in mind. Yet, his season was a failure. He is currently the number two, and his future is uncertain, though there is still hope he might bounce back and rediscover his best form. Matvey Safonov (27) took advantage of the situation to establish himself as the starter and win the Champions League, displaying impressive qualities, even if he isn’t quite among the world’s top five.

If the Japanese international is signed, choices will have to be made to bring clarity to the position. Coach Luis Enrique values competition, but having three established goalkeepers is not feasible; a departure would be necessary. Suzuki could be loaned out immediately to gain experience. Alternatively, it might come down to Chevalier or Safonov, depending on their respective mindsets and the available options. We will have to wait for the situation to become clearer.

Then again, Suzuki might simply not come to PSG at all. …where there is already plenty to work with for the present and potentially the future. Let’s not forget Renato Marin (20, on loan this season) and Alessandro Longoni (18, almost certainly the third-choice keeper this season), who arrived from Serie A over the last two summers.
