Ilya Zabarnyi, the 22-year-old central defender from Bournemouth (contract runs until 2028) and Ukraine, has been announced as a defensive priority for Paris Saint-Germain this mercato. Today, L’Equipe and Foot Mercato report that PSG is the player’s great desire. But negotiations are shaping up to be difficult.
“Negotiations are continuing between Paris Saint-Germain and Bournemouth for the transfer of Ilya Zabarni. Luis Campos and Tiago Pinto, the two strong men in the sporting sector, have been continuing discussions on the dossier in recent hours.
The English are asking for €70m, a sum that Paris has not yet offered. However, the capital club has an important advantage: the player’s willingness. The central defender has informed his managers that he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain _ and no other club.
PSG have just over forty-eight hours left to finalize the transfer and hope to field the Ukrainian at the Club World Cup.”
“Talks continue between PSG and Bournemouth for Ilya Zabarnyi
The central defender is only interested in joining PSG and hopes his transfer will be completed in time for the Club World Cup.”
It’s quite interesting to see these two journalists make a similar announcement almost at the same time. There’s at least one source, if not several, with the same indications to pass on. This for a defender who would undoubtedly be of interest to PSG.
Zabarnyi, with his great potential, character and fine footwork, at least fits the bill. And he could be tempted by this step, with the hope of establishing himself as a benchmark over time.
However, there are only rumors and therefore no certainties. Especially when it comes to the price or a possible breakthrough in negotiations. Which seems possible, but could also clearly stall. In any case, it will be difficult to finalize this arrival in time for the Club World Cup (registration closes on June 10). We may be heading for some very intense days.
