On Friday morning, Le Parisien provided an update on the situation and future possibilities for Paris Saint-Germain’s backup options, notably Gonçalo Ramos (24-year-old striker), Lee Kang-In (24-year-old midfielder/forward), Senny Mayulu (19-year-old attacking midfielder), and Ibrahim Mbaye (17-year-old forward).
Gonçalo Ramos
“If he wants to play more and hopes to give his coach something to think about, the former Benfica man is not, for now, feeling stifled in his role as a backup. ‘Yes, I’m staying at PSG, that’s for sure,’ he declared on Wednesday, brushing aside any rumors of a departure due to a lack of playing time.”
Lee Kang-In
“This demotion hasn’t always been easy to accept for a player with such a strong personality, who is determined to reassert himself. His versatility and technical finesse make him an attractive option for several clubs, even though his contract runs until 2028. PSG will be open to listening to offers, and his situation will be one to watch until the end of the transfer window.”
Senny Mayulu
“The lack of new signings in midfield shows the confidence placed in the academy graduate, whose attitude is impeccable. Under contract until 2027, Mayulu represents the future of PSG and should soon be offered an extension.”
Ibrahim Mbaye
“With a deal running until 2027, the winger enjoys the staff’s confidence and is aware he has an opportunity to make his mark in the wide attacking positions. While Kvaratskhelia, Doué, and Barcola are competing for the two starting spots, Mbaye will have the chance to showcase his value afterward.”
Overall, the sense is that each of them could genuinely have their chance, at their own level. Many had mentioned Lee or Ramos as likely departures, but perhaps forgot that PSG needs depth, that they belong at the top level, and that their mentality is also an asset. Building a football squad isn’t just about gathering the most talented players and hoping things work out.
It’s also important to remember that Lee and Ramos have real qualities, even if they have lacked consistency at PSG. Mayulu and Mbaye should also get their opportunities. We’ve already seen the former make a strong impression, even if he still has progress to make. The young forward should also be able to earn more playing time in the coming months, as long as he continues to prove himself in training and matches.
