Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Georgia’s 23-year-old striker, officially left Napoli on Friday evening to join Paris Saint-Germain on a contract that runs until June 2029. The player answered a few questions for the club’s official website following his arrival. He spoke about his joy, his choice, the players he knows in the squad, coach Luis Enrique, his goals and the fans.
Kvaratkshelia “The project is what convinced me to come here.”
“How did it feel to become a Paris Saint-Germain player?
It’s an honor to wear the PSG jersey. It was a dream for me to play for one of the greatest teams in the world. It’s a great pride and a dream, and we’re going to fight together to fulfill our dreams. I’m very happy.
What tipped the balance in your choice?
The project is what convinced me to come here. I know what the club wants to achieve, and how it works with the players. A lot of great players have played here, so I didn’t think much about it when I had the opportunity to come to Paris.
Kvaratkshelia “I know Gigio (Donnarumma), with whom I traded before joining Paris Saint-Germain.”
Do you already know some of the players at the club?
I know some players, yes. Fabian (Ruiz), who I played with at Napoli. And I know Gigio (Donnarumma), with whom I traded before joining Paris Saint-Germain.
You’ll be working with Luis Enrique…
He’s one of the best coaches in the world, and I know I’m going to learn a lot by working with him, and I’m very happy to become a player coached by Luis Enrique.
Kvaratskhelia “to experience new challenges by coming here to Paris, new dreams, new goals.”
What are your goals in coming to Paris?
I want to experience new challenges by coming here to Paris, new dreams, new goals. I want to improve myself to help the team as much as possible and give the best of myself.
Any words for the fans?
I’d like to meet them soon, and I can’t wait to share some great emotions with them. I’m delighted to be joining them here, and I’ll see you soon!”
Logically, Kvaratkshelia is happy to be at PSG. Otherwise, he simply wouldn’t have made this choice. Which was obviously very clear to him, since he had been waiting since last summer for an agreement between the two clubs while Napoli offered him a new contract. We can only appreciate his determination.
And it should be easy to find it on the pitch, as it is one of the player’s habits, in addition to his creativity. All of this, combined with his technical skills and versatility, should delight coach Luis Enrique. With his love of movement and the use of space, he should know just how to use the Georgian. And possibly take him to the next level.
There are high hopes for Kvaratskhelia at PSG. He obviously hopes to achieve great things, with a hunger for a title. Let’s hope it will turn out to be the beautiful story we’ve been waiting for. Even if we’ll have to be patient, with a possible adaptation period required by a change of club and country.
We can’t wait to see the Georgian international’s first steps in Paris, perhaps against Reims next Saturday on Matchday 19 of Ligue 1. But we mustn’t get our hopes up and shoot him down if he doesn’t shine straight away. Even if it could very well be a joy to watch.
In any case, we’re pleased to note that he exchanged views with Gianluigi Donnarumma before signing for PSG, and his feedback was certainly positive.
