Ibrahima Konaté, the 25-year-old central defender with the French national team and Liverpool (under contract until 2026), is in talks to extend his contract. But he has also been mentioned in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain. Anfield Watch now reports that PSG are on the lookout.
“PSG are hoping to convince Konaté to return to his native Paris. The defender played for Paris FC, the “other” Parisian team, before being transferred to RB Leipzig.
Today, no transfer is planned for January. Instead, PSG plans to push for the defender’s signature during the summer, when Liverpool will have no choice but to listen to offers.”
Nothing impossible, PSG is parting ways with Milan Skriniar (29) and it would make sense to find a competitor in central defense, possibly by taking over from Marquinhos (30). Konaté is a profile that could appeal, with the added bonus of his link with Paris.
But don’t be fooled by a simple rumour. We all know that the mercato is full of unconfirmed leads and communication games. In this case, the player’s entourage could be at the helm, putting pressure on negotiations. So let’s wait and see for certainties.
Not forgetting that Konaté may have other ideas than PSG. Just as PSG may have other priorities.
