Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, has been struggling of late and has been rather sidelined by coach Luis Enrique. So the idea of a mercato departure is taking hold. PSG Inside Actus reports that there is hope of a departure in the next few days.
“Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s Spanish winger, could well leave the French capital before the end of the mercato. Several Premier League clubs are interested, including Aston Villa, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and even Chelsea. Among these suitors, Aston Villa currently appear to be in pole position to acquire the services of the Spanish international. And let’s not forget Leverkusen, Galatassaray and Saudi Arabian clubs who have not yet said their last words.
We remain cautious, as there is still no certainty with rumors. But there may be clubs hoping to re-launch Asensio, a talented and professional player, at a lower cost given his situation at PSG (his contract as well as his low playing time). There’s also reason to believe that the Spaniard is listening, and so is the Parisian club.
However, nothing can be taken for granted. We’re not yet talking about a concrete offer, let alone an agreement. The mercato can move very quickly, except that the winter season closes soon (February 3 at 11pm in France) and is always a little more tightly locked than the summer season. So we’ll have to wait and see if there really is a chance of a breakthrough for Asensio.
