Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, has been struggling of late and has been rather sidelined by coach Luis Enrique. So the idea of a mercato departure is taking hold. Journalists Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs reported on Sunday that everything is set for a loan move to Aston Villa for the rest of the season.
The two journalists state that the Spanish player will travel this Sunday in order to complete his loan before the end of the mercato (this Monday at 11pm in France) and that his salary will be fully covered by Aston Villa.
They’re generally reliable, so we can assume that official confirmation will come quickly. Asensio is one of the highest-paid players in the squad, having joined Real Madrid as a free agent at the end of his contract. He will also need to take advantage of this loan to get back on track, so as to have some good options this summer.
