The 2024-2025 winter mercato is here (for the whole month of January), so the rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are piling up right up to its last day (closing tonight at 11pm in France). Now, Le Parisien has announced that Renato Marin, the 18-year-old goalkeeper who is at the end of his contract at AS Roma, will join the club on a 5-year deal.
“INFO PSG – Paris is going to secure the arrival of Renato Marin, a young goalkeeper who plays for AS Roma. He will join Paris on July 1, and is expected to sign a 5-year contract.”
“Indeed, Paris has anticipated the arrival of Renato Marin, who plays for AS Roma’s reserve team. Having reached the end of his contract with the Italian capital club, he will commit himself to the French champions for the next 5 years.
An Italian Under-19 international, the 18-year-old (1.93 m) holds dual Brazilian nationality, having been born in Sao Paulo. He joined Roma’s training center in 2022.”
We remain cautious, even if we’d like to see the Paris-based newspaper be so assertive about a player who’s little known for nothing. There’s no particular reason to get involved in such a dossier. We can therefore assume that the Italian goalkeeper will sign for PSG soon and join them this summer.
There are a number of points to be clarified, however, as the Parisian club already has 3 professional goalkeepers (Gianluigi Donnarumma, Matvey Safonov and Arnau Tenas) with a relatively secure future, given that the oldest is 25 (Donnarumma and Safonov).
Let’s wait and see. In any case, we have no doubt that PSG would not recruit a player at random. There may be hope of seeing him grow with loans, for a place in the squad or a good sale.
