Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-1 to Liverpool (video highlights PSG/Liverpool, return on Tuesday March 11) this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 16. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference. The Spaniard spoke of the result and the performance of his players.
Enrique: “It was a very complete performance”.
How do you explain your team’s defensive efficiency against Liverpool, who hadn’t created a single chance until that accident?
“I don’t think there’s been a single Liverpool game this season where at half-time they had zero expected goals. I think we were superb. I think it was one of our best performances of the last two seasons.
We had no problem attacking or defending. My players were fantastic, very united. It was a very complete performance. That’s what I told the players, I’m proud of their performance. And we need to stay positive for next week’s game.”
Enrique: “The best player on the pitch was their goalkeeper, Alisson Becker”.
What were your words in the dressing room at the end of the match?
“I hardly ever speak to the players at the end of matches. Obviously today, like all the fans, they were disappointed with the result. So I just told them to keep their heads up and that we’d just come up against one of the best teams in Europe. We were the best team and the best player on the pitch was their goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.”
Enrique: “Today is the day to congratulate my players and my team”.
Your team is dominating more and more, but there are still a few worries, particularly with regard to late goals. Is there still room for improvement here?
“I remember the game against Atlético Madrid, which was fantastic. Without analyzing the match, I was very proud of my team and my players. Whoever wants to see only the negative, let them look at it, but you can also see all the positive in this team.
I’m very proud of my players. Of course they can improve, and that’s part of my DNA. But today is the day to congratulate my players and my team. In six days’ time, we go to Liverpool to try to be better than them, to create chances and to make our fans proud of us.”
Enrique “We can look ahead with a positive outlook.”
Kvaratskhelia played a fantastic game, how do you rate his integration?
“It’s very easy to adapt to my style of play. To play for PSG you have to be a great player. We can only have great players here. I don’t want to single anyone out today, but talk about the team and what we’ve done together. We can look ahead with a positive outlook. And in six days’ time, we’ll be trying to repeat this performance. Until the end, we’ll fight with our weapons. I can guarantee it.”
