Paris Saint-Germain welcomed Liverpool FC to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening. And it was a cruel disappointment for the Parisians, who lost 0-1 (video highlights PSG/Liverpool), at the end of a totally dominated match. The Red and Blues, who crushed their opponents, came up against the keeper and were not helped by the refereeing in this Round of 16 first leg. Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté spoke to Canal+ after the match:
What is your analysis of this victory?
We certainly expected this kind of game, especially against PSG. We shouldn’t have underestimated them: we knew they were a team that knew how to build the game. I’ve been lucky enough to see them in Ligue 1 and the Champions League recently, and I saw that they had a lot of quality. We knew it was going to be like that, but we also know that the Champions League comes down to a few details, and that’s what happened today.
Konaté: “We’ll have to get ready and we’ll need our stadium”.
Should I have fouled Barcola?
No, that’s my opinion. There’s VAR, there’s everything you need. I’m telling you no, if there’d been a push, I’d have taken a red. I just put my arm in, that’s all. If I’d used a lot more power, we could have had a chat.
How do you see the second leg?
First of all, we’re going to focus on the Premier League this weekend. Then we can think about the second leg. We’re aware of the quality of this team, and for me they’re one of the best teams we’ve played against this season. We’re going to have to get ready, and we’ll need our stadium just as much as they needed it today.
