Stuttgart midfielder Enzo Millot spoke to L’Equipe about Paris Saint-Germain’s 27-year-old striker Ousmane Dembélé. He spoke of the French striker’s sensational season, and was not at all surprised to find the player “exceptional”.
Millot “It’s crazy! Everyone knows he has extraordinary qualities, but people are still shocked”.
“It’s crazy! Everyone knows he has extraordinary qualities, but people are still shocked. They’re only seeing it now, but we’ve known it for a long time. To score so many goals and make so many assists is still exceptional. He’s changed a bit, he needed to be more focused, to look deep inside himself.
Millot “I think the group, the club and certainly the coach are pushing him to the limit”.
I think the group, the club and certainly the coach are pushing him to the limit. Right now, he’s the player he always thought he’d be. We laugh about it together from time to time and he himself says he’s more focused.”
Those are strong words, but they’re fair enough. Dembélé has always been a player apart, capable of the best and the worst. When it comes to dribbling, he has no equal, he’s a top player. What he lacked in decisiveness, he now has. His season has been nothing short of exceptional, and his outlook has changed.
Today, Dembélé is showing his true colours. He’s hungry, he’s no longer here for the fun of it. Deep down, we suspected that this potential was there, sleeping. He’s finally clicked and today, he’s not the same player.
