Kylian Mbappé, 26-year-old striker for Real Madrid and the French national team, has found himself at the heart of a controversy following an interview with La Sexta. Some people have interpreted his comments as being directed against Paris Saint-Germain. The man who played for PSG from 2017 to 2024 has responded on social networks.
Mbappé “It wasn’t difficult to choose between Madrid and money.”
“It’s the best club in the world, it has an aura that the others don’t have. With the arrival of Cristiano, my other idol, I followed every game. Even if you’re not a Madrid fan, you watch their games because it’s the biggest club in the world.
At first it was a dream, then a goal and now a reality. It’s not just a question of money. It wasn’t difficult to choose between Madrid and money.”
The last sentence was the subject of much anger and criticism, as some felt PSG was targeted. Here’s Mbappé’s clarification:
“It had nothing to do with PSG.
The question was about the next step and the choice of, for example, Arabia or a club like Real.
Concentrate on what’s happening in France, the rest is not for you because you don’t understand. La bise.”
We’re not the biggest fans of Mbappé, but you’ve got to hand it to him that you don’t have to see a dig at PSG every chance you get, and that you always have to pay attention to the context. That goes for all interviews.
There’s also always a slightly embellished discourse in favor of the club in which a player finds himself. Mbappé is of course generously paid at Real Madrid, but it could have been even better in Saudi Arabia. The striker preferred the sporting aspect. It’s simple, without controversy.
