Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday ahead of the Champions League final against Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena on May 31 (CET).
Luis Enrique “You never really know what’s going to happen”.
“When you work as a coach, it’s important to anticipate the possible course of the season. You never really know what’s going to happen or what the team can achieve, but we’ve certainly made a lot of progress compared to last year.
For me, there are a lot of stars in this team, and that’s the beauty of it: it’s the stars that serve the team, not the other way round. It’s all very different.»
Luis Enrique “The important thing is that the whole team is prepared”.
I’m very lucky because I have a lot of top players, many stars in their own way, but work and performance are at the service of the team, and in a collective sport like soccer, that’s the most important thing for me.
If you add to that the fact that it never depends on a single player, because there are always problems, states of form and a player can be better or worse… the important thing is that the whole team is prepared.”
Luis Enrique is constantly hammering home the importance of the collective at Paris Saint-Germain. For the Spanish coach, PSG’s strength lies not just in the accumulation of stars, but in their ability to put themselves at the service of the group. A vision that contrasts with some past seasons, when individualism seemed to prevail.
The former Spain coach reminds us that the season remains unpredictable, with injuries, illnesses and unforeseen events, and that it is essential for “the whole team to be prepared”. This approach, centred on humility and collective commitment, appears to be the keystone of the 2025 version of the Parisian project, in which every talent, from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (26) to the forwards and youngsters, must be part of a collective dynamic if they hope to reach a milestone on the European stage.
