Although tracked by several major European clubs—including Paris Saint-Germain—LOSC midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, 18, could well continue his development in Lille. Speaking to L’Équipe, Olivier Létang expressed a desire to keep him while deliberately leaving the door open for a transfer.
Létang: “He should stay with us for another season”
“I never discussed figures,” the Lille boss stated. “But very few clubs today can afford a player of Ayyoub’s quality—and he’s only 18. What environment would be best for his continued growth? We’ve met since he returned from the World Cup. I can’t reveal what was said. Anything is possible, but my view is that he should stay with us for another season. I am convinced there is a strong chance he will stay. And he would be very happy to do so.”
Olivier Létang presents Lille as the most logical sporting choice for Bouaddi, though his stance also serves LOSC’s interests in negotiations. By asserting that only a few clubs can afford the player, the Lille president implicitly highlights his value without publicly stating a price. The stated desire to retain him allows LOSC to avoid any appearance of urgency and signals to suitors that a standard offer will not suffice.
Létang: “I refused all discussions during the World Cup”
“As of now, I haven’t held any talks, because I refused to discuss the matter with clubs capable of paying the transfer fee while the World Cup was ongoing. What I tell everyone is that there is no rush. We are very relaxed, as is Ayyoub. We will assess the situation based on what happens in the coming weeks.” That said, you’re right—we have to be prepared for any eventuality. If he were to leave, we need to be ready.”
LOSC is clearly looking to control the timeline. By refusing to open talks during the World Cup, Létang allowed Bouaddi’s performances and international exposure to boost his market value. The message sent to Paris Saint-Germain and other suitors is crystal clear: Lille does not view itself as a seller and can afford to wait. At the same time, preparing for a potential replacement confirms that a departure remains a possibility should a sufficiently substantial offer arrive.
