Having arrived in the 2023 summer mercato from Inter Milan, 30-year-old defender Milan Skriniar has not made the move to Paris Saint-Germain. His contract expires in June 2028, and he has been loaned out to Fenerbahçe for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season. He has bounced back well and there has been talk of a permanent move to the Turkish club this summer. This Saturday, Sports Digitale reports that it’s well advanced, but with one worry still.
“Concerning Skriniar at Fenerbahçe, there is no problem between the two clubs regarding the transfer fee; an agreement has been reached. However, Fenerbahçe would like to lower the salary slightly.
The contract is for three years and it seems that Skriniar wants to stay at Fenerbahçe. Milan Skriniar has a high salary expectation. It seems that Galatasaray doesn’t reach this level.”
Skriniar came in as a free agent, and it’s quite classic in this case for the salary to be a little more substantial (although one could argue that there’s no reason why it should be, especially with already high remuneration packages). The next difficulty is to find a way out. If the player doesn’t make an effort, things get complicated.
It’s a pity, but it’s quite usual. All the same, we hope that the Slovakian will be able to move forward with Fenerbahce’s offer, as it’s a great footballing option for him. And it’s safe to assume that he’s far from being in financial difficulty. Even if a pay cut can be painful, you have to be reasonable.
But beware: a stalemate is not impossible, and the Skriniar dossier could become much more complicated than we had hoped.
