Arriving in the 2023 summer transfer window from Inter Milan, 30-year-old defender Milan Skriniar has failed to establish himself at Paris Saint-Germain. Loaned to Fenerbahçe for the second half of the 2024-2025 season, he has bounced back well and is even moving to the Turkish club on a permanent transfer. This was made official today.

When he signed, Skriniar looked like a great piece of business for PSG. He was a proven performer at Inter Milan and arrived on a free transfer. But then came a back injury, and coach Luis Enrique brought a style of play to Paris that doesn’t really suit him.

There were several difficult months and a sense of disappointment, eventually leading to the Slovak defender almost “disappearing” from the matchday squads. Thankfully, a loan move offered him a way out it did him good, and now he’ll have the chance to get his career back on track at a strong club.

From PSG’s perspective, the “damage” is limited. Skriniar came in for free and is now leaving for a respectable transfer fee. However, he won’t leave a lasting legacy at the club or among the fans. Still, we wish him all the best going forward.

In any case, it’s a good financial deal, with a sale announced at around 10 million euros for a player who arrived free and seemed lost in Paris. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, PSG is relieving itself of one of its biggest earners at around 16 million euros a year. This frees up a great deal of space for the future.
