Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Sunday against Inter Miami at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as part of the Round of 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup (kick-off 9pm CET, broadcast on DAZN).
5 – Join Lionel Messi…
Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is now at Inter Miami and will be starting this match. Will he be out for revenge? It’s hard to say, but nobody is really satisfied with the 38-year-old’s time at PSG. Neither the Argentine nor Paris. At the very least, there’s a special taste.
4 – and former Barça glories.
After the Seattle Sounders, who rely mainly on local talent, PSG face an Inter Miami who have invested more. This includes former Barça stars Jordi Alba (36-year-old left-back), Sergio Busquets (36-year-old midfielder) and Luis Suarez (38-year-old striker). We can add current coach Javier Mascherano, a former midfielder/central defender. A bit of nostalgia for another era, and a chance to see where they stand.
3 – Discovering a new team.
We already know some of the players, but not the whole squad. We need to make the most of this Club World Cup, with new teams to discover and get out of our rut. We’ve already seen with Botafogo that victories are far from a foregone conclusion, and that we need to take the game seriously.
2 – Lots of expected goals.
PSG aren’t as flamboyant as they could be, but they’ve still got some great teams. And once they’re out of the group phase, they could well go from strength to strength. Even more so with the return of Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old striker), who is likely to be more creative.
Opposite them, Inter Miami are one of the best attacking sides in MLS. Relying on Suarez and Messi opens up opportunities for some superb moves. But they also have a crumbly defence. We’d be surprised if there weren’t some pace and goals in this match.
1- Going to the quarter-finals.
There’s not the same desire or expectation as in the Champions League, but it’s still a competition to be won. And it’s far from insignificant. Especially for PSG, who have all the other competitions this season. It’s possible to make even more history. We might as well go all the way. So we’ve got to take this place in the quarter-finals.
