Marco Asensio, the 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder/forward under contract until 2026, has struggled to fully establish himself under coach Luis Enrique. He was loaned to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024–25 season but was not retained by the English club. Upon his return, a move to Fenerbahçe was announced. L’Équipe now reports that a return to the English club is still under discussion.
“His loan spell at Aston Villa was productive (21 matches, 8 goals). The former Real Madrid man regularly showed in Birmingham that he has not lost his technical finesse. Unai Emery would like to keep him — again on loan.
In Turkey, the Fenerbahçe option remains open. However, there is no financial agreement between the player and the Turkish side, as Asensio is unwilling to make significant salary concessions.”
It comes as a surprise, given that Aston Villa seemed out of the picture after not keeping Asensio. But talks could indeed be happening — though nothing will be easy, as PSG would likely prefer a permanent sale. Negotiations could prove tricky for this talented yet inconsistent player with a high salary.
Nothing is certain yet. Not long ago, a move to Fenerbahçe was reported to be close. Hopefully, there will be some concrete developments soon, as uncertainty still surrounds his future.
