This Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain returned to Ligue 1 action, despite a glaring lack of preparation. The capital club returned to domestic competition against FC Nantes, winning by the narrowest of margins, 0-1, against the Bretons. Anthony Lopes, the Canaries’ goalkeeper, spoke to Ligue 1+ to reflect on the defeat:
Lopes: “I think it was an avoidable goal”
Are there reasons to be satisfied with the defeat?
Yes, there are reasons to be satisfied, but after all, we knew we were going to face a good Paris team, so we still wanted to take our chances. I think we lacked precision at times. We were also a little tired because they made us run a lot. Well, they didn’t do much either, but in terms of mentality, the defeat hurts, but we have to maintain that same attitude and we’ll have much happier evenings.
You warned your team that they were playing set pieces quickly.
Yes, even though we’re a little tired, we have to be more clear-headed. If we give this Paris team a little space, we knew very well that they could play set pieces quickly. They have very good shooters; they can play with two players, with three players, they can play through the middle and shoot like they did tonight. We lacked a little intelligence. I think it was an avoidable goal.
