As part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the French national team was at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday to face Iceland and won 2-1. The match featured three players from Paris Saint-Germain, all French: Lucas Chevalier, Lucas Hernandez, and Bradley Barcola. The latter started the match and scored just before Aurélien Tchouaméni’s red card (68th minute). Here are the players’ ratings in the French press.
Le Parisien:
Mbappé (7.5)
Thuram (6) – Olise (4) – Barcola (5.5)
Koné (6) – Tchouaméni (5)
T. Hernandez (5) – Upamecano (6) – Konaté (5) – Koundé (4.5)
Maignan (5)
L’Équipe:
Mbappé (7)
Thuram (4) – Olise (4) – Barcola (6)
Koné (7) – Tchouaméni (4)
T. Hernandez (4) – Upamecano (6) – Konaté (5) – Koundé (4)
Maignan (4)
These ratings seem fairly accurate, averaging out the two newspapers’ slightly different approaches. France dominated the match, especially after going up 1-0, but perhaps this wasn’t emphasized enough, as they lacked efficiency in front of goal. We know that the final score often influences the ratings, which is a shame, as the overall performance was somewhat overshadowed.
In any case, the French team leaves with a victory and leads their group. The result could be considered very positive, except for the injuries to Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué. This is particularly problematic for PSG moving forward. At least, Barcola looked quite sharp and scored before being substituted. This should help him regain his form.
