This Saturday, September 27, Paris Saint-Germain will face Auxerre at the Parc des Princes (kick-off at 9:05 PM, CET) for matchday 6 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. And as before every match, here is a preview of the Parisians’ opponent.
Auxerre’s situation –
10 years after relegation to Ligue 2 and after a sometimes very difficult period, AJ Auxerre finally returned to Ligue 1 for the 2022-2023 season. This is a great boost for this historically important club, which had sometimes flirted with relegation to the third division.
However, they were relegated again… only to return to Ligue 1 for the 2024-2025 season, finishing first in Ligue 2 the previous season. This time, the promotion was a success, with an 11th-place finish. Now they must build on this success by consolidating their position in the top flight.
This is the mission of coach Christophe Pélissier, who took over in October 2022, replacing Jean-Marc Furlan. Things are off to a good start with their current 10th-place position.

Auxerre’s style of play:
Auxerre doesn’t focus on dominating possession, that’s very clear. Their strategy is primarily to defend well, and then quickly exploit opportunities when they regain possession. They won’t hesitate to play long balls, particularly down the flanks. For PSG, it’s important to remain patient against this low-block defense and to maintain a high tempo. Any mistakes could be quickly punished. Maximum concentration and precision will be needed to avoid being caught out.
