On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face FC Barcelona in the second round of the Champions League group stage (1-2, video highlights here). Following the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his team’s performance.
Enrique: “After conceding the goal, I think we improved”
“I am particularly proud of the team, the players, and the supporters. I think it was a very tough, very complicated match. At the beginning, they played better. We had to make some saves, but after conceding the goal I think we improved, and we scored our first goal, then started to play in the best way.”
Enrique: “We are a true team at home and away”
“In the second half, I think it was sensational, with the confidence of the players and the changes we made. I’m very happy, now we need to prepare for the next match! The supporters? We’re used to them. They are incredible. It’s a real pleasure to know they’re always there, all the time. We are a true team at home and away, and that’s important for us.”
It was a surprising success for PSG, who traveled without several key players to face this in-form Barcelona side. While the Blaugrana started the match strongly, even opening the scoring just after the 15-minute mark, the Parisian club quickly managed to take control of the game.
One can only admire such a performance from PSG, who came away with a win in Barcelona despite a squad largely made up of academy graduates. This proves both the talent and the strength of this team. The collective does not rely solely on senior players, but rather on the intensity shown by each individual. And even though not everything was perfect on Wednesday, the essential is there: an away victory at a time when hopes were very slim before kickoff.
