This week, the specialist website Transfermarkt published its updated estimate of football players’ value. In the top 25 (not to go back too far), we found five Paris Saint-Germain players, but the highest ranked player is only 19th. They are: Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old forward), Désiré Doué (20-year-old midfielder/forward), João Neves (21-year-old midfielder), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (24-year-old forward), and Vitinha (25-year-old midfielder).
As always, when faced with such estimates, we encourage you to keep a little perspective. This isn’t to say that one player is necessarily better than another because he’s higher up the list. Contract length, position, club, and even league all factor in. And we don’t have to agree with every point.
There are no defenders, yet they are valuable. But we also know that they are generally less valued, that’s just the way it is. Here, we can question the Parisians who are much lower in the rankings than during the Ballon d’Or. But, once again, these are only estimates and not a fixed price. Nothing says, for example, that PSG would open the door to Doué or Neves with an offer of €100 million. That would even be a huge surprise.
We can still appreciate that PSG has a large squad, equipped for the very highest level, since it is the club with the most players in this top 25. Also, all the players are valued at a better price than the one paid by Paris during the transfer, a symbol of the team’s progress.
