The opening match was a particularly fine comeback for the championship. PSG and Strasbourg delivered an intense, spectacular performance. But without a winner. A disappointment for the Parisians, who were still aiming for victory, as well as for Strasbourg, who led 1-3. At least Paris was able to respond. It then remained for Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille to take advantage and move ahead.
Lyon “missed” with a particularly frustrating match. 29 shots to 5, but 7 on target to 4, and a 3-2 defeat to Nice despite 70% possession and 16 corners to 1. That’s football, it can be cruel, and efficiency never forgives. For Nice, the points will be good, but there’s still work to be done in their game.
OM didn’t start well against Le Havre and were trailing in the 24th minute, except the match turned on a play that sparked controversy and much debate. A handball was punished with a penalty and a red card in the 34th minute. Some argue it wasn’t in the box, or that a red card is harsh anyway. In any case, Marseille took advantage of the situation to equalize and roll out the game late on, with Greenwood scoring four goals in particular, making it 2-1 in the 67th minute to make it 6-2 at the end.
Behind, Monaco, who changed coaches during the break with the arrival of Sébastien Pocognoli in place of Adi Hütter, drew 1-1 at Angers without particularly reassuring things. But perhaps the crisis has slowed down a bit. The 17th-place team, for its part, took a point that seems worthwhile.
Lens and Lille, facing Paris FC and FC Nantes, were able to take advantage of the points they lost to move up. This leaves Nantes in a very worrying zone. Just behind Lorient and Brest, who played out spectacular draws, but not very encouraging for both clubs. As do Rennes and Auxerre. Rennes coach Habib Beye is even close to losing his place. Finally, FC Metz remains very worrying with a 4-0 defeat against a strong Toulouse team that is clinging to the European race.
