This week, before the sixth and final matchday of the group stage, the Paris Saint-Germain women’s team was eliminated from the 2025-2026 Champions League with only one point. According to L’Equipe, this does not call into question the position of coach Paulo César.
Paulo César: “Realistic about the team’s current level, management wants to develop its project in the medium term.”
“This early elimination was not met with dismay internally. Realistic about the team’s current level, management wants to develop its project in the medium term, alongside Paulo César, whose contract runs until 2027.
He will therefore have time to lay the new foundations desired by sporting director Angelo Castellazzi, who believes that an inflation of investments does not guarantee success, let alone profitability, in women’s football.”
A likely upward revision of objectives is expected in the summer of 2027, after a World Cup whose coaches are already being closely monitored by the capital club.
Nothing is impossible, since PSG needs to be well-informed about the development of its women’s section. Some very talented players have left in recent years, with replacements focused on youth and the future. This can work, if we take our time. And by re-establishing structure and stability, too. Because we’ve seen too many changes in the women’s squad and staff.
There have been some good things, despite disappointing results. We need to build something, without forgetting to aim for the top spots in the league to qualify for next season. PSG is 2nd in the Première Ligue Arkéma, nothing to worry about.
We’re still wary, though, because we’ve already seen that football can change very quickly and surprise us.
