Vitinha, the 25-year-old midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal, spoke to the Portuguese media outlet O Jogo in an interview published on Thursday, December 25th. He was asked about João Neves, the 21-year-old midfielder with whom he has often shone at both PSG and for the national team. And he didn’t hold back in his praise.

Vitinha: “He will very soon become the best of all time.”

“”I know that comparisons are often made [between Xavi and Iniesta], and that’s normal, because there are many similar styles in football. It’s obvious, and I have nothing but praise for João Neves. I constantly tell him how incredible he is, both as a player and as a person. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen, and I’m convinced of it…

He’s going to become the best of all time very soon. In fact, for me, if he’s not the best right now, he’s certainly among the best players. What he’s capable of is incredible; he excels in almost every area, even in difficult situations.”

“I’ve said it several times, and it bothers him a little, but I would say that his only weakness is that he has very little room for improvement, despite his young age. He exploits so many qualities that it’s impressive. João simply has to continue to be himself, a five-star player on and off the field.”.

“Vitinha, I only reached this level thanks to her help.”

“If he maintains his attitude and personality, and I have no doubt he will, he will be the best Portuguese player for many years to come. He’s someone I admire enormously; I always praise him because he deserves it, and I recognize that I only reached this level thanks to his help. Playing alongside him is fantastic; it’s a pleasure and a privilege.”

These are very strong words from Vitinha, and some may disagree. But the PSG midfielder is certainly entitled to his opinion, and he doesn’t speak lightly. He’s with Neves every day and in every match. Neves, in particular, impresses very regularly. Still quite young, the Portuguese player is always ready for the big games. All this with a strong sense of teamwork, evident in his tireless efforts and great tactical intelligence.

Without being the most prominent player, he performs essential work for the team. The difference is often quite noticeable between the team with and without him. Vitinha even goes so far as to say that his own rise to the top is partly due to Neves. It’s hard to find a better compliment. And we can only hope that this duo continues for many years to come at PSG.
