The matches:

Ligue 1 returns after a weekend of Coupe de France action, and it’s off to a strong start. PSG (2nd) hosts Lille (4th) to put pressure on Lens (1st). A great clash in terms of both quality of play and league position. There’s the title race, but also European qualification. If PSG wins, the final podium spot could seem a distant prospect for the top two.
Especially since Lens will be clear favorites against Auxerre (17th). This doesn’t guarantee anything, but a Lens victory is certainly a possibility. Meanwhile, Marseille (3rd), somewhat inconsistent, must be wary of a draw against Angers (10th). Angers often display some quality in their play and can cause problems for just about anyone.
Before all that, Monaco (9th) absolutely must bounce back against Lorient (12th) to maintain any real hope of European qualification. Perhaps even to avoid the worry of a relegation battle. With this in mind, Lorient will be looking to build on their good run of form.
Strasbourg (7th) is under the same pressure as Monaco after a terrible run of form and a change of manager (related to Chelsea’s situation), while Metz (18th) is fighting hard. There’s reason to hope for a victory against the bottom-placed team, but they must also be wary.
As for Lyon (5th) and Rennes (6th), who are both on the climb up the table, nothing will be easy against Brest (11th) and Le Havre (13th). But they seem to have what it takes to win, especially since they’ve recently turned the tide of success in their favor.
Finally, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the crucial relegation battle between Nantes and Paris FC. Nantes beat Marseille last week, but they still lack consistency in their performances.
