Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento, often called Dro Fernandez, is reportedly very close to joining Paris Saint-Germain this winter. The 18-year-old midfielder does not want to extend his contract, which expires in 2027, with FC Barcelona and has a €6 million release clause that PSG is expected to trigger. Journalists Marc Mechenoua (Le Parisien) and Abdellah Boulma provide an update on the situation this Friday evening.
Marc Mechenoua:
Discussions are continuing between PSG and Barcelona regarding Dro Fernandez. Relations between Laporta and Al-Khelaïfi have improved, but Paris is being cautious in negotiations so as not to upset the Catalans, who are unhappy to see their star player leave.
Several clubs have been very aggressive in recent days in an attempt to change Dro Fernandez’s mind and persuade him to join PSG. Chelsea and Manchester City have had several contacts with his representatives. Dortmund has submitted several offers.
Abedellah Boulma:
“The Dro Fernandez transfer saga between PSG and FC Barcelona is still ongoing. The slow pace is due to competition from other clubs, notably Manchester City and Chelsea (as Marc Mechenoua pointed out), and to PSG’s desire to proceed cautiously with regard to Barça. The good relationship between Najib Akbar and Laporta fuels PSG’s confidence in resolving the matter.”
It’s difficult to be certain without concrete evidence, except that Dro Fernandez is indeed leaving Barça. Even if it’s not official yet. A change of heart remains possible as long as he hasn’t signed elsewhere. This is especially true for a transfer to PSG.
Several media outlets have reported it as a done deal, but nothing is certain yet. So, other clubs could well try their luck, and a surprise is still possible. We’ll wait for confirmation. Clearly, there’s still confidence.
