On Sunday evening, to close out Matchday 20 of Ligue 1, RC Strasbourg Alsace hosted Paris Saint-Germain in a packed and electric Stade de la Meinau. While the Red and Blues opened the scoring after Matvei Safonov saved a penalty, the RCSA players quickly equalized through Doué, the veteran striker, and could have taken advantage of Hakimi’s sending-off to extend their lead. But it was the Parisians, playing with ten men, who ultimately prevailed 2-1 thanks to a header from Nuno Mendes (see the video highlights). Red and Blue striker Bradley Barcola spoke to L1+ about the match:
Barcola: “We got the job done, even with 10 men.”
A hard-fought victory?
It was a very difficult match; we know they’re a very good team. It’s always very tough against Strasbourg. But we managed to get the job done, even with 10 men, so we’re very happy.
Satisfied, but you could have done better?
We know we can do better, but in the end we won, so we’ll take that away from it.
What have you changed to be more decisive?
It’s about being more focused in front of goal. I’m able to create chances, now I have to finish them. I need to be more focused, have the hunger to score, and it will come. I have to keep working, I am, it will come back little by little.
“The Clásico? We’re going to give everything to win.”
The assist for Mayulu?
It was a bit of a lucky pass (smiles). We know we have to press, we have to keep going. We scored from it, that’s great, we’ll keep going like that.
A word about the Clásico next week?
We know it’s going to be a very good match. They’re a very good team, we’ve had two tough matches. We’re going to give it our all to win. We’re counting on the fans, they’re always there. They’ll create an incredible atmosphere in the stadium and we’ll create an incredible atmosphere on the pitch.
