Since joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 from Eintracht Frankfurt, Willian Pacho (23) has formed a fine defensive duo with Marquinhos (30). Speaking to AFP, the Ecuadorian international spoke about his Brazilian counterpart before outlining coach Luis Enrique’s main demands.
Pacho “ I have to follow his example.”
« Marquinhos ?
I couldn’t wait to play with him. It’s a childhood dream, and I’ve been watching him play in the Champions League for a long time. I’m learning a lot from him, he’s a very experienced player and a good person.
From day one, he taught me to free myself and stay calm. We try to cover spaces, we communicate a lot, he’s very clear. I need to follow his example.
Pacho “ play every day in training as you would in a match.”
What is Luis Enrique asking of you?
I adapt to what he asks, he’s very intelligent. His training sessions have helped me to understand the game better, and my team-mates have helped me a lot too.
Above all, he demands hard work. To play every day in training as you would in a match. And then he asks us to pay attention to the way our future opponents play.”
Like Lucas Beraldo (20) when he arrived almost a year ago, Pacho is very clear about Marquinhos: he’s an idol and to be around him is something very special. It may even have been a factor in convincing him to sign.
Even better for PSG, they combine very well. Pacho’s power and speed complement Marquinhos’ intelligence and control. We hope to see them continue to progress together, even if they do of course have rivals. One of them is Lucas Hernandez (28), who is nearing a return from injury.
As for Luis Enrique, his message is quite clear. The Spaniard demands maximum commitment and seriousness from his players. Logically, these are essential elements if we are to move forward with ambition. We hope that he can continue to get the players to follow him, to form a great team, so that this team can achieve its objectives.
