Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (19th) and Atlético de Madrid (27th) this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes as part of Matchday 4 of the Champions League 2024-2025 phase (kick-off 9pm, PSG/Atlético de Madrid broadcast on Canal+ in France).

5. Antoine Griezmann at the Parc des Princes.

The 33-year-old striker has had a brilliant career, but unfortunately hardly any in France. What’s more, he’s announced his international retirement, so we won’t be seeing this fantastic and exemplary player again.

Of course, we hope that Griezmann won’t shine too brightly tonight. But that doesn’t mean we can’t admire and enjoy him while he’s here. It could be his last at the Parc des Princes.

4. Atlético de Madrid, for a change.

We’re used to seeing PSG take on big Spanish clubs, including another based in Madrid. But this is Atlético’s first time in the competition. It’s almost cause for celebration, apart from the fact that they can be very tough opponents. But the “new” aspect of the challenge makes it very exciting.

3. A Luis Enrique surprise?

We’re all familiar with the standard line-up that has emerged over the last few games, and it often looks the same, with the 9 (or false 9) position in particular in doubt. But Paris coach Luis Enrique knows how to surprise, with a strong choice based on the competition, which is also played out in training, or on his analysis of the opponent.

It wouldn’t be the first time he’s taken everyone by surprise with his Champions League line-up. It would even be a bit of a surprise, with an “expected” starting eleven.

2. The attacking spark?

Some people don’t want to hear it, but PSG have often been interesting in the game this season. Particularly against PSV Eindhoven on the previous day in the Champions League. On the other hand, there’s no denying that they’ve been largely ineffective. Could this be the night to turn things around? It’s possible, it seems very close and it could happen at any moment. It would clearly be a good night for it.

1. Both sides need points.

The league phase is not decided tonight, and yesterday’s results showed that a lot is still possible. But PSG (19th before Matchday 4) and Atlético (27th) would feel a lot better with 3 more points heading into the second half of the games.

It promises to be an intense encounter, with both teams needing to win and unable to lose to avoid the pressure that would become very painful.
