Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain coach, spoke to CBS Sports Golazo after PSG’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea (8-2 on aggregate, quarter-final to be played against Liverpool or Galatasaray) on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League Round of 16 tie (second leg on March 17).
Luis Enrique: “The mix of counter-attacks and possession was key.”
A perfect match?
Perfection doesn’t exist in football. But I have to say the first leg was very difficult, especially for 80 minutes. But we got the result, and the second leg was different; we were very precise on the counter-attacks. The two goals sealed the match.
What impressed you most?
It’s always difficult to control a match like this. We were a great opponent, and Chelsea wanted to score early. It’s tough to keep possession. But I think the mix of counter-attacks and possession was key. Defending with the ball is a priority. Our performance was very good, and we deserved to win the match.
Luis Enrique: “That’s the way it is in the world.”
Is that a message to other teams to show you’re not going to give up the title easily?
I think everyone, especially the teams in the Champions League, respects us. They know how we play. The noise around us is always criticism about everything; that’s the way it is. Everyone is always criticizing. But the respect we receive and that we have from other teams is great. We’re looking forward to the next round.
