Here’s our series. The 5 good reasons to watch a match (with some adjustments here and there). We’ll revisit the appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the Paris Saint-Germain match this Wednesday against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals (second leg on April 14th) (kick-off at 9 pm, CET).
5 – Is Liverpool really struggling?
Very often, PSG’s opponent in Europe is touted as being out of form, almost “easy” to beat. In Liverpool’s case, this is partly understandable. The Reds are far from the Premier League title this season, sitting in 5th place, more than 20 points behind the leaders. Their Champions League campaign has also been less than stellar. And their play has sometimes been hampered by lapses in concentration. However, they still have a formidable squad, and coach Arne Slot hasn’t lost everything. In a European match, everyone knows how to rise to the occasion, and Liverpool will want to remind everyone of their true level.
4 – Revenge for last season.
Even if the result of this quarter-final can’t change the past, we suspect Liverpool will be eager to erase the painful memory of last season’s elimination by advancing this time. PSG, for their part, can draw on the confidence gained from having been able to turn things around at Anfield. In any case, we can expect two more intense and spectacular matches.
3 – Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia…exceptional goals to come?
Recently, Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old forward) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25-year-old forward), in particular, have been in exceptional form and have scored some truly outstanding goals. We can hope they continue this form with the same confidence. And let’s not forget that other players could very well shine. Paris is well-equipped.
2 – Will PSG still be super efficient in the Champions League?
Often frustrating, even unfairly criticized, for their lack of efficiency this season, PSG were impressive in this area against Chelsea, winning 8-2 on aggregate. Can they continue this run? It would be a great idea for qualification, and for the spectacle.
1 – Simply enjoy it.
Football should be enjoyable, and there’s not much better than these Champions League nights. There will be a special atmosphere, top-level competition, intense emotions… What could be better than fully enjoying the match? Especially since you never know if a club will be able to return to this stage of the competition the following season.
