On Wednesday, in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals (second leg on April 14), Paris Saint-Germain faced Liverpool at the Parc des Princes. Ibrahima Konaté, the 26-year-old defender for the English team, spoke to Stan Sport after PSG’s 2-0 victory.
Konaté: “It’s the coach’s job to find what we can improve and change.”
A special moment in Paris?
I’m always happy to come back because it’s my city. But with tonight’s result, of course I’m not happy.
A glimmer of hope for qualification?
There’s still one match left at Anfield, and it’s our home ground. Anything can happen there, and we have to make sure we’re ready. We have a match this weekend, and then we’ll think about PSG.
A very difficult evening, how do you explain it?
It’s just like last season. I think PSG has one of the best teams in the world, and they showed it today. It was difficult to shoot, to get shots on target. But now it’s the coach’s job to find what we can improve and change for the home game, and we’ll see.
Konaté: “I hope they do the same in the Premier League.”
Is it a disadvantage that Paris was able to postpone their match against Lens?
It’s happened twice in a row, because it was the same last season. I’d like us to have the same thing in the Premier League, but it’s completely different. In a way, I’m happy for them. Because it’s good for them, and I think the league helps them achieve something in the Champions League.
I hope they do the same in the Premier League in the future, or why not this season for the teams playing in the Champions League, who knows?
