Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final (second leg on April 14). After the match, journalist Daniel Riolo spoke to RMC Sport. According to him, Paris has already qualified for the semi-finals.
Riolo: “The Parisian whirlwind swept everything away once again.”
“I understand the frustration (that they could have scored more), but I’m not even going to get into that. I’m so convinced that PSG is stronger than Liverpool that I don’t see how this ‘frustration’ could turn into regrets next week.
There’s such a gap, technically, tactically, and especially physically… I don’t see Liverpool being able to turn things around. The Parisian whirlwind swept everything away once again.”
A fine performance from the Parisians, who needed to win this first leg at the Parc des Princes. This 2-0 victory puts Luis Enrique’s men in a strong position to qualify, without being overconfident. Playing at Anfield is always difficult for any team.
But against a Liverpool side with nothing left to lose, the task ahead is daunting. They will therefore need to approach this match with utmost seriousness to leave the Reds no chance or hope next Tuesday. The experience gained by this Parisian team will, we hope, be enough to secure a place in the semi-finals.
But we’re not as certain as Riolo, who, as is often the case, is exaggerating. PSG has made good progress, but football and the Champions League have clearly shown that it’s far from over.
