Here’s our series. The 5 best reasons to watch a match (with some adjustments here and there). We’ll be highlighting the most appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (1st) and Olympique Lyonnais (5th) this Sunday at the Parc des Princes for Matchday 30 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season (kick-off 8:45 PM, CET).

5 – Barcola against his former club.

Bradley Barcola, the 23-year-old PSG striker, signed for Paris in 2023 from Olympique Lyonnais. There were some doubts, but he has established himself and even earned a place on the French national team. Facing his former club is always special, and this is an opportunity to confirm his progress.

4 – The marathon has begun.

With their qualification for the Champions League semi-finals (April 28 and May 6), as well as the postponed matches against Nantes (Ligue 1 Matchday 26) and Lens (Matchday 29), PSG now have matches every three days until the final matchday of the season (May 16). The Parisians are in the thick of it; it’s the final sprint, highlighting the importance of points and squad management.

3 – The backups need to make their mark.

After the Champions League quarter-finals, we can expect some rotation. Then, changes for those who will be starting. The backups will get playing time, and each player will need to be ready to help the team achieve its objectives. We hope for a strong determination and some impressive performances.

2 – Matches that are often “crazy.”

Matches between PSG and Olympique Lyonnais have often been unusual. Either Lyon manages to give Paris a real run for their money, even winning with a remarkable performance, or the Parisians clearly dominate with a large margin. It’s very rarely a mixed bag. Let’s hope for another thrilling match tonight, though we have a clear preference.

1 – The race for the title and for Europe.

PSG saw Lens take the lead early in the weekend, overcoming a 2-0 deficit after just fifteen minutes, followed by a Toulouse player being shown a red card that turned the game around, ultimately resulting in a 3-2 victory. The Parisians now only have a one-point advantage (and a game in hand after this match against Lyon), so they can’t afford to slip up.

For Lyon, despite a difficult period recently, the objective of qualifying for the Champions League remains. And at least for the Europa League. So they need to pick up points. Today’s points look particularly hard-won, but we’re counting on a certain determination to pull off a major upset.
