Present at the Metropolitano Stadium for “Le Forum“, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke on several topics. Among them, the future winner of the Ballon d’Or and the favorite nation for the 2026 World Cup.
Al-Khelaïfi: “It will be for a PSG player, 60 to 70% chance.”
“The next Ballon d’Or?
It depends on the Champions League and the World Cup, but we have four or five players who can win the Ballon d’Or. I think it will be for a PSG player, 60 to 70% chance.”
Al-Khelaïfi: “A European team will win the World Cup.”
The World Cup?
“France has a very good team, Spain has a very good team, Brazil is always Brazil, Argentina… But I think a European team will win the World Cup.”
The two events are inevitably closely linked. It’s unlikely that the winner of the next Ballon d’Or won’t be a World Cup champion or at least a finalist. Last year, Ousmane Dembélé, who won the Champions League with PSG, lifted his first Ballon d’Or.
This year again, given PSG’s performances on the European stage, it could very well be another Parisian. Especially since nations like Portugal and France, which have several PSG players in their squads, are among the favorites for this World Cup. PSG could therefore shine in both team and individual awards.
