Back in the starting eleven this Wednesday for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich (1-1, 5-6 on aggregate), 30-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz delivered an excellent performance. He stopped in the mixed zone after the match and spoke, notably about his coach, Luis Enrique.
Ruiz: “We’re very happy to have him as our coach.”
“It’s incredible. We know Luis Enrique very well. He’s built an incredible team. We’ve been playing with him for three years, we’ve reached a semi-final and two Champions League finals. It’s incredible. We’re very happy to have him as our coach and we hope we’ll have him for many more years.”
All PSG supporters obviously hope to see Luis Enrique at the helm of the team for many years to come. What he brought to this club is simply revolutionary after many years of bitter disappointments in the Champions League. Lifting that trophy was a dream for Parisian fans, a dream that became a reality last year, just two years after the Spanish tactician’s arrival.
Beyond the results, there’s the entire mentality and the project he brought with him. So, obviously, there will one day be another PSG without Luis Enrique, but he has already left his mark on the club’s history and will remain its iconic coach for decades to come.
