Arriving at Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, 24-year-old defender Willian Pacho has established himself as a pillar of the Parisian defense. Speaking to L’Equipe, Renato Paiva, his former coach at Independiente del Valle, discussed the Ecuadorian international, highlighting his qualities as a young player.
Renato Paiva: “Great defenders also make their mark through their impact.”
“He read the game so well that he didn’t need to go into tackles or use his body. With the ball, he was already fantastic, very fast, and technically very sound.
Great defenders also make their mark through their impact,” Paiva continued. “A big tackle, a foul, something that shows their presence. Willian, for his part, defends with great composure.”
Pacho made a lasting impression last season with his defensive solidity, composure, and, of course, his physical presence. Arriving as an unknown, he quickly made a name for himself thanks to his performances both domestically and in Europe.
With Marquinhos now approaching 32, a solid replacement was needed for the Parisian defender and captain. Pacho appears to be his worthy successor and should, hopefully, establish himself as a long-term fixture in the Red and Blue jersey.
