On Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain kicked off Matchday 5 of the Champions League with a trip to face Bayern Munich (1-0 video summary here.) On the sidelines of the match, Luis Enrique, coach of the club de la capitale, spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance.
Luis Enrique “We were lucky to be in the game right to the end”.
“We gave a bad impression from the first minute. In the first half, Bayern Munich were superior to us. We couldn’t get the ball back, they were pressing us and getting it back all the time.
The start of the second half was a little more encouraging. We thought we had chances and I think the start of the second half was better. But after Ousmane was sent off, we suffered. We were lucky to be in the game until the end, but they deserved to win.”
Luis Enrique “we must hope to qualify.”
“It’s a real pleasure to hear our fans applauding throughout the match. But it’s frustrating for us to be in this situation. We lost a Champions League game at home and it will be difficult to get those points back, but there are still three games left and we must hope to qualify.”
Once again, we can’t really call it a failure. But PSG didn’t win and continue to sink, crushing their chances of qualifying for the last 16. This time around, the Parisians didn’t create as many clear-cut chances as in previous matches. But once again, they failed to convert their two or three clear-cut chances.
Once again, the best solution is to concentrate on the French championship. We’ll have to try and regain our confidence before the reception of RV Salzburg on December 10. PSG’s chances of qualifying are diminishing drastically, but they still exist. So we have to believe until the end and hope for a miracle.
