Emmanuel Mbemba, an 18-year-old defender developed at Paris Saint-Germain and under contract until 2026, had been tipped to leave this summer—specifically for the Bundesliga. However, Le Parisien now reports that the academy graduate is set to sign his first professional contract with Paris FC.
“Emmanuel Mbemba is joining Paris FC. After announcing his departure from #PSG, the young defender has agreed to terms with the capital’s second club. He is scheduled to undergo his medical tomorrow.”
Given that this newspaper is particularly reliable regarding PSG’s youth players, it is safe to assume Mbemba has indeed made his choice. It is a logical move for someone aiming for more accessible playing time without upending their entire life. The academy graduate won’t need to make a major move to join a club whose stadium sits just across the street from the Parc des Princes. He might need to adjust his training routine, though even that isn’t certain.
One would have liked to see the young defender fight for a spot at PSG over the years, but it is difficult to offer hope to young players when the squad is of such an elite level. That is a downside one simply has to accept. We hope Mbemba has no regrets, though moving to a “more accessible” spot is far from a guarantee of success.
