Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich (video summary Bayern/PSG) this Tuesday at the Allianz Arena as part of matchday 5 of the Champions League 2024-2025 league phase. PSG legend Angel Di Maria spoke to Canal + about his former club’s negative performances. For him, young players need time to grow up.
Di Maria “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t”.
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Paris has a lot of young players. They need to grow up. Before, there were a lot of stars like Kylian, Neymar, Ibra, Cavani. Now they have young players like Joao Neves, who played for Benfica last year. They have young players who need to grow up. Sometimes it’s good to have older, more experienced players, but Paris needs time.”
We suspect that time can help players grow, but PSG also have a fine team that needs to do better in certain circumstances. The failures of Dembélé, Donnarumma and others, who have good experience, are not always excusable.
Against Bayern Munich, the difference in level was clear to see, but PSG could have made the difference in matches they had controlled, against PSV and Atlético Madrid in particular. We’re expecting better, even if we can understand that this team isn’t totally ready for games at this level.
