Mika Godts, a 21-year-old forward (primarily a left winger) for Ajax Amsterdam (under contract until 2029) and Belgium, who enjoyed an excellent season, has recently been linked to Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking to the newspaper De Telegraaf, his agent, Niels De Jonck, was very clear.
“Mika wants to join Paris”
“PSG has made it clear that they really want Mika. And Mika wants to join Paris, which seems logical to me when you have the opportunity to move from the Eredivisie to a club that has won the Champions League twice.
“I am convinced the clubs will reach an agreement.”
Mika was keen to win trophies with Ajax. But when an opportunity like this arises, the situation changes.
Ajax doesn’t want to sell?
Everyone looks out for their own interests; that’s normal. I am convinced the clubs will reach an agreement on the transfer fee.”
This statement is clear-cut and significant. It should help PSG in negotiations. It is reminiscent of the situation with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25) in the past, though we also saw that such statements don’t guarantee a quick deal. At the very least, it provides a concrete fact, avoiding days of vague speculation. One can also hope the clubs reach an agreement fairly quickly.
Given Godts’ desire to move, PSG should ensure they don’t drag their feet—especially since the Belgian didn’t play in the World Cup and will be relatively fresh at the start of the season compared to other PSG players. However, Paris won’t force the issue if they deem Ajax’s asking price unreasonable.
The Dutch club’s management has taken a firm stance, but that could simply be a negotiating tactic. We know that keeping a player who has already decided to leave for a new major challenge can be detrimental to both him and the team. Let’s hope for an agreement soon.
